Company Overview

  • Rhythm & Hues is a large VFX studio which has won many Academy Awards over its time
  • It is famous for its CG 3D character animation
  • Currently it has worked on over 100 films and has recieved Academy Awards for Babe in 1995 and The Golden Compass in 2008.
  • R&H now has three facilities which are located in Malad, India and another in HITEC City, India along with the home of Rhythm and Hues which is in Culver City, California.

How to Apply

Digital Artists should send:
- Cover Letter
- Resume
- Demo Reel (no longer than 3 minutes)
- Demo reels should be submitted on a DVD labled with your name, address, phone number, and email address.
- Will not accept websites, email attatchments, CD-ROMs, floppies, Zips, or Beta Tapes


What Rhythm & Hues Looks For

Modelers:
- Show a solid sense of 3D design and attention to detail through work with traditional sculpture, architecture, as well as digital models
- Show that the level of detail in your work can approach photo-realistic complexity
- Demonstrate high level of understanding of anatomy and proportions of realistic human figures and animals.


Animators:
- Show that you have mastered the machanics of animation (squash-and-stretch, overlapping action, anticipation, folow-through, weight, timing, etc.)
- Strong acting skills
- Show a diversity of style, ranging from highly realistic motion to more exagerated "cartoony" style


Compositors:
- Show your ability to solve complex composting problems, such as dirty blue screen, suppressing unwanted highlights in are to receive digital shadows, intricate, morphs, etc.
- Include shots with "before" and "after" versions or a more explicit layer build up


Apprentice Program

R&H Apprentice Programs provide the oppurtunity to gain valuble production experience while working with talented and dedicated professionals.

- Ideal candidates are recent graduates
- Apprenticeships run between 3 to 4 weeks in duration
- Work with the best artists and supervisors through formal classroom instruction and informal collaboration
- Be trained in R&H proprietary software and other in-house production tools
- This is a paid apprenticeship
- Housing is provided for out of town apprentices

While some participants may be considered for employment after evaluation, participation in the R&H Apprentice Program does not guarantee employment within the company.

      1. Rhythm & Hues Studios was first established in Los Angeles, California in 1987.
      2. The Studio now has three facilities what are located in Malad, India and another in HITEC City, India along with the home of Rhythm and Hues which is in Culver City, California.

      1. Rhythm & Hues was founded by six former employees of Robert Abel and Associates and is now owned by three of those employees.
      2. John Hughes
        1. John Hughes is president and founder of Rhythm & Hues Studios, a leading producer of computer generated character animation and visual effects for entertainment and advertising. Guiding a facility with hundreds of digital artists and staff, John is committed to providing a collaborative and supportive work environment in pursuit of the highest levels of artistic and technical excellence.

        1. In addition to his role at Rhythm & Hues, John is committed to improving education for California students. He currently serves as Chairman of the Education Committee for the Digital Coast Roundtable, and Chair of the Digital Coast Foundation. He also serves on several Boards of Directors including: the California Alliance for Arts Education (a member of the Kennedy Center Alliance for Arts Education Network); the Entertainment Economy Institute; and the Workforce Investment Board, a collaboration between government and private industry that oversees all federal and state training funding for the City of Los Angeles. Previously, he was a member of the California Superintendent of School's Task Force for the Visual and Performing Arts.
      1. Keith Goldfarb
        1. Keith Goldfarb is one of the three owners of Rhythm & Hues Studios as well as the Chief Architect for its proprietary software. While working at Robert Abel & Associates in production, and writing special software for custom applications, Keith and three co-workers decided to form Rhythm & Hues Studios in 1987.
      2. Pauline Ts'o
        1. In 1987, Pauline and five former Abel co-workers founded Rhythm & Hues Studios, which has grown to become one of the entertainment industry's leading producers of computer generated visual effects and character animation for movies and commercials. The studio won an Academy Award® in 1995 for its work on "Babe," (Achievement in Visual Effects), and was nominated in the same category in 2005 for its work on "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe."

        1. Today, Pauline combines her love of art with a finely honed technical acumen, in a broad spectrum of projects for the studio, and is actively involved in the creative development of Rhythm & Hues' feature film and television properties. Among her numerous credits, Pauline has served as an Art Director and Lighting Technical Director on the Coca-Cola "Polar Bear" commercials and Disney's Animal Kingdom centerpiece attraction "It's Tough to be a Bug" in Orlando, Florida.
